Hallstatt

Hallstatt

Driving in Salzkammergut lake region of Austria, from Salzburg heading to Hallstatt is a breathtaking experience itself with a spectacular view of the mountains and lakes.  From one  village after another, we were just in awe by the charm of each village more and more.  And when we get to Hallstatt, we were just completely blown away.

Situated quietly on the shore of  Lake Hallstatt with the backdrop of the mountain range makes this oldest village in Austria  postcard picture perfect.

 A Picture Perfect Village

Dated back to 8th century B.C, this small village was famously known by its salt mine. It is possible the world first known salt mine. This salt miner statue stands at the entrance of the village as a reminder of its once wealth and culture. In 1997 UNESCO declared Hallstatt, the World Heritage Site.

From the Salt Miner statue, you can take a lazy stroll on the main street by the lake into the town . You’ll notice  the Hallstatt timber home tightly stacked up on the mountain cliff ,decorated with flower boxes.  There are shops along main street where you can get souvenirs, try different flavors of salt , salt products. Well, it’s a salt mine after all.

Step into a Fairytale

You start noticing bright and multicolored stone buildings on the narrow cobblestone alley way from mustard, pink, and peach color. That makes the village even feel more like a setting of a story book. It’s charming, fantasy, and romantic.

One word I would sum up about Hallstatt is ‘Picturesque’. This village is a kind of places that will awe you from its beauty and the surrounding nature. And it has stayed this way since earlier years and probably the beginning of time. We, in nature, always seek beauty. And the natual beauty given by our mother earth is the best beauty of all kind. It sooths us. It makes us in peace. All in all, always try to find beauty in nature, untouched and unspoiled. And surround yourself by it. Be one with nature.  And let it find you peace.

Have you visited Hallstatt before? What is your favorite thing about the town?
